Meet James

I was introduced to photography in 2004 by mum. For the next fifteen years I would shoot with her for schools, kindergartens and businesses. So coming back to the education space is a full circle moment for me. I went on to study marketing at The University of Melbourne, and a photo blog I completed as part of an assignment on digital publication would evolve into a businesses that saw me through 15+ years in the music industry working as head of video production at some of the biggest dance festivals in the country. Working in music and the arts gave me the opportunity to develop a strong and unique creative skillset. A trip back to University lead me to discover Baroque art and Neo Baroque theory. This contextualised my work and gave me another lens through which to approach the process.

These skills and methodologies all came together in their full effect on a piece I’m extremely proud of. Crown and Country is an immersive film that is an invitation from Warlpiri elders to all Australians to embrace Indigenous culture as a part of our shared cultural identity. They do this in the film by educating the audience on how they see Australia and what it means to be Australian. The response to the film was extremely touching, and has lead me to refocus my efforts to make more positive change.

Now I help educators amplify their impact by distilling and communicating their message with cinematic storytelling that touches the heart.
